Everyone should visit Egypt at some point in their life. This is home to some of the world’s greatest monuments, including the Great Pyramids, the Sphinx, the Valley of the Kings, and the Temple of Giza. A direct flight from London to Cairo takes about 5-6 hours, and the time difference is just one hour ahead of GMT. The currency used in Egypt is the Egyptian pound.
The capital city of Cairo is an exciting mix of bustling streets, historic buildings, vibrant markets, and modern shopping malls and restaurants. This is a great jumping off point to see the Temples of Giza. The Egyptian Museum is a massive complex that features captivating displays about life in the time of the Pharaohs and the history of Egypt. In addition, Cairo features ornate mosques, medieval churches, and Turkish baths. This is an excellent destination for those who want to enjoy the sights of ancient Egypt, while still enjoying modern amenities.
Aswan is a bit less hectic than Cairo, and another great place to see incredible ancient monuments such as the Tombs of the Nobles and Abu Simbel Temple. Many people who visit Aswan on their Egyptian holidays take a boat ride down the Nile here in wooden sailing boats called Felucca. This is a pleasant way to see the temples from the water.
For an incredibly laid-back holiday next to the beach and the desert, Dahab is a popular destination. Here visitors can sunbathe on the beaches, go diving and snorkelling in the Red Sea, or take a desert tour with Bedouin tribes. There is also a wide range of accommodation here ranging from budget guesthouses to chic boutique resorts.
Egypt is very dry and hot most of the year. The best times to travel in Egypt are from November to March, when the temperatures are a bit cooler. The average temperature during this time is 27 degrees Celsius.
